Endings: -ed
Endings: -ed
Read a book that is written primarily in past tense with your child. Point out the different past tense verbs as you read.
Practice the "-ed" word suffix with your class by labeling a piece of chart paper with three sections: D, T, and ED. Give students different past tense verbs — such as jumped or cooked — and have them say the word out loud to determine which -ED sound it has. Record the answer under the correct column.

Realistic Fiction: Adding Detail
Realistic Fiction: Adding Detail
If your child reads mostly fantasy books, try introducing some realistic fiction texts into the mix. This will help them get a better feel for the genre.
Make a chart titled "Our Writing Goals" and list the goals you would like your class to work on — such as adding details, using finger spaces, using correct punctuation, or writing neatly. Give students a sticky note with their name on it and allow them to place it next to the goal they would like to work on. Remind them of this goal and use it as a talking point during writing conferences.
