Compound Words
Compound words are two words put together to make a new word. For example, cup plus cake equals cupcake, and base plus ball equals baseball. Ask your child to brainstorm compound words, and keep a running list this week!
Introduce compound words by explaining that compound words are two words put together to make a new word with a new meaning. Hold up pictures of different parts of compound words and see if the class can guess the compound word. For example, cup plus cake makes cupcake.
