Plural "Y" Endings

Plural "Y" Endings

Words that end with the letter Y sometimes change when they are made plural. Review words with special spellings with your child.
Create two class charts that show the spelling pattern when changing a noun from singular to plural form. One chart can be for words ending with consonant+Y; the other for words ending with vowel+Y. Add to the chart as you come across words throughout the day, such as when reading together as a class.

Opinion Writing

Opinion Writing

A fun way to have your child practice opinion writing is to prompt them to write a persuasive piece about why they should get a raise to their allowance.
Brainstorm a shared topic of interest that will engage your students. For example, students could write persuasive letters to their families about a book that they would like to have at home. Ask students to come up with at least three reasons why they want this particular book. Use templates to help them organize their work.
