Possessive Nouns

Possessive Nouns

Our speaking and writing would sound awfully clumsy without possessive nouns and pronouns! Teach your child how to correctly form singular and plural possessives and how to determine when to use each one. Be sure to distinguish between possessive nouns and contractions; these can be confusing for third graders because both word types use apostrophes.

Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent fractions are fractions that show the same value, but look different. Teach your child to multiply or divide both the numerator and the denominator by the same number in order to find an equivalent fraction. (Remind them that they can't multiply or divide by zero to find an equivalent fraction, however.) .This strategy is helpful as your child gets into more complicated operations and concepts with fractions.
