Homophones
Homophones
Choose a set of homophones, or words that sound the same but have different meanings, and ask a child to use each word in a sentence. This is a great way to see if they truly understand the meaning of these tricky words!
As students acquire new vocabulary, they can benefit from a variety of activities that reinforce word meaning. For example, assign an activity where kids choose the correct homophone based on context clues. Through this type of exercise, fourth graders will practice spelling words that sound the same but have different meanings.

Multiplication
Multiplication
Make sure your young mathematician doesn't get bogged down when tackling math problems. Pausing to think about which problem-solving strategy to choose will allow them to apply critical-thinking skills when solving a challenging question.
It's important for children to be flexible thinkers as they unpack different math problems. Instead of just following a procedure, teach students to stop and think about what the question is asking and how they might solve the problem. Give young mathematicians practice drawing and writing number sentences when solving problems.
