Rich Yang

Rich loves helping millions of parents and teachers at Education.com.

Rich brings almost 20 years of marketing and product management experience with big and small brands. Prior to Education.com, Rich was Head of Small Business Marketing at Visa, Inc. Rich has held marketing and product leadership roles at Intuit, MarketWatch (acquired by Dow Jones), Charles Schwab, and Clorox. Rich holds a Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, and dual degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in history and finance.

Rich is passionate about improving education. He serves as PTA Co-President at his two daughters' school, a Board Member for Techbridge (a non-profit empowering girls in STEM), and coaches his daughters' softball and soccer teams.

Burke is excited to help guide the evolution of learning and technology at Education.com.

Before joining Education.com, Burke served as Vice President of Product Management for Adobe’s Digital Document franchise, where he led the transformation of the traditional desktop software group towards a cloud-based subscription business—growing cloud subscription revenues to a $100MM+ annual run rate within the first two years. Prior to joining Adobe, Burke was Vice President of Product Management for the Global Homepage Group at Yahoo!, driving experiences for hundreds of millions of daily users across more than 50 countries. Burke’s early focus on creating great web experiences began at Excite@Home before moving on to Netscape/AOL and Intuit, among others.

Burke received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from the University of the Pacific Eberhardt School of Business. Burke currently lives in the Bay Area with his wife and daughter, and is often found envisioning the future of education while pedaling through the local hills and mountains.

Graham McNicoll
CTO

Graham joined Education.com in 2007 as one of the first employees and a founding member of the engineering team. Since then he has written more than 1.5 million lines of code that run Education.com’s site, servers, and products. In 2004, Graham co-founded a nonprofit focused on delivering Internet communications to Africa. This experience taught him how to overcome a bewildering array of technical problems, which make Education.com’s technical challenges look easy! Earlier in his career, Graham conducted research in medium energy physics for a particle accelerator in Virginia.

Graham graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He comes from a long line of educators, and is happy to continue that tradition at Education.com.

Marc Frochtzweig
VP of Product Marketing

Marc joined Education.com with the goal of scaling its user base and delighting customers with products that help kids learn, grow, and succeed.

Marc previously served as Senior Director of Product at PodShow, where he developed innovative media players and a platform for allowing independent media producers to earn revenue as they build their audience. As Director of Product at Tagged, Marc built the team and site from scratch and took the site viral, pulling in millions of customers in short order. Before Tagged, Marc helped Netscape develop channels in Netcenter, the Internet’s first portal. He has also worked at Disney, Microsoft, and AOL creating Internet TV and radio products, and as Managing Editor at Red Herring and Open Computing.

Marc received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He currently lives in Silicon Valley with his wife and two daughters, and has no qualms using his kids for user testing to make better educational products.

Tatum was thrilled to join the Education.com team in 2014 as a teacher consultant to help in the development of new educational products. She was honored to join the team full-time in 2015, and looks forward to developing products that help teachers get the most out of every day in the classroom.

Prior to her work at Education.com, Tatum worked as a teacher in both Oakland and Berkeley Unified School Districts. She has also served as a District Technology Teacher Leader, and a Learning Experiences Designer for Harvard’s Agency by Design Research Initiative. She received both her B.A. and Ed.M from the University of California, Berkeley, where her program focused on curricula and instructional practices informed by research on child development. Her passions revolve around arts education, equity, social justice, and helping teachers to navigate the increasingly complex demands of classroom teaching. She aspires to continuously provide resources that can help teachers, parents and students feel inspired and successful.

Tatum was thrilled to join the Education.com team in 2014 as a teacher consultant to help in the development of new educational products. She was honored to join the team full-time in 2015, and looks forward to developing products that help teachers get the most out of every day in the classroom.

Mike Kwatinetz
Director
General Partner with Azure Capital

Mike Kwatinetz is a founding General Partner with Azure Capital Partners where he specializes in software and related infrastructure technologies. Prior to Azure, Mike was Group Head of Technology Research, a Managing Director and the senior software and hardware analyst at several major investment banks, including Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Bank Securities and PaineWebber. Mike was also a senior research analyst at Sanford Bernstein & Co.

Prior to his career in technology research, Mike was CEO of Woodbury Computer Associates, a software products and consulting firm, which resulted in a 160x cash-on-cash return.

Mike has provided research coverage and strategic advice to numerous technology companies and has consistently been viewed as a top resource on many, including Microsoft, Compaq, Dell, Apple, Hewlett Packard, VA Linux and Gateway. His coverage universe also included e-business software and internet devices and infrastructure. His theories on the shift of industry control to Microsoft and Intel, “The 4th Wave of the Web,” the advantages of Linux, and the need for PC vendors to go Beyond the Box” were considered agenda setting for the investment community. His technology investment strategy newsletter, SoundBytes, was one of the most widely read amongst public portfolio managers. He was top-ranked by Institutional Investor in PC Hardware and ranked second in PC Software and was the only sell-side analyst to ever be top three rated in both software and hardware, doing so for six straight years before leaving to form Azure in early 2000. In 1997 and 1998, Mike was rated Institutional Investor’s No.1 Large-Cap “Home-Run Hitter” for stock selection among all Wall Street analysts and remained among the Top 5 in 1999. Furthermore, Reuters and the Wall Street Journal have selected him as the No.1 PC analyst.

Mike received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematical Modeling from the University of California Berkeley and his M.B.A. in Accounting from New York University. Until recently, he sat on the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) advisory committee. He is also author of “The Big Tech Score,” published by John Wiley & Sons.

Ronald Fortune

Co-Founder

Ronald is the Co-Founder and Chairman at Education.com. Previously Dr. Fortune served as CEO from October 18, 2006 to February 29, 2012. Dr. Fortune was the founder and CEO of Edumetrics Learning, a company focused on developing technology-based educational content for students, which eventually formed a partnership with the EPGY program at Stanford University. He also served for 10 years as CEO of Computer Curriculum Corporation (CCC). During his tenure as CEO, CCC became the largest educational software company in the United States.

William A. Hanna is a Managing Director with California Technology Ventures, LLC (CTV) and Jacobs Capital Group, LLC (JCG). He brings extensive experience and expertise in the financial and investment industries to the team.

Mr. Hanna is the Founding President and Director of Cedars Bank. Under his tenure, the Bank grew from $6 million of assets to over $500 million. Prior to founding Cedars Bank, he was Senior Vice President, Credit of Bank Audi USA where he had been hired by the Audi Group of Banks to open the Bank in California.

William Hanna was awarded a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

He served as Vice President of the Corporate Finance Department at Smith Barney & Co. and as Director of Smith Barney International. In these positions, Mr. Hanna was involved in all facets of investment banking, including stock and bond issues, initial public offerings, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital. He also worked internationally for Smith Barney in Paris, Tokyo, and Beirut, Lebanon.

Mr. Hanna is active in a number of industry and civic organizations which includes Operation Hope, where he serves on the National Board as its Chairman of the Audit Committee; the Southern California Business Development Corporation; the Los Angeles Community Financial Resource Center; the American Arab Educational Foundation; the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce; the United Way, Inc.; the Episcopal Diocese Federal Credit Union; Boy Scouts of America; the American Youth Soccer Organization (A.Y.S.O.); Member of the Governing Board of St. Luke Medical Center; Member of The Corporation Council of CEOs. Mr. Hanna was also the recipient of the 2007 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, recognizing his business success and extensive community service.

Managing Director with California Technology Ventures

Dr. Karin Forssell is the Director of the Learning, Design & Technology Master’s Program and a Lecturer in the Stanford Graduate School of Education. As Director of LDT, Karin prepares graduate students to design and evaluate educationally informed and empirically grounded learning environments, products, and programs. Karin’s research interests include the role of digital tools in motivating and supporting teacher learning, and the design of digital tools that make a positive difference in the classroom context.

In addition to her positions at Stanford, Karin supports teachers in using technology in Palo Alto Unified School District. Karin holds a Ph.D in Learning Sciences and Technology Design, an M.A. in Education, and a B.A., all from Stanford University.
