Rock Balancing

What To Do:

1. Head outside for a nature walk to search for some nice rocks with your child. Bring a basket or bag along to place the ones that he finds interesting.
2. Now invite your child to take a closer look at his collection of rocks. A rock is a hard, natural-forming, solid mass of pressed minerals. They come in all shapes and sizes and are sometimes colorful...and sometimes not!
3. Invite your child to select his favorite rocks and think about how he could turn them into a sculptural form. Use the Internet to research artists that create rock sculptures, such as Bill Dan. Balanced rock sculptures don’t use any glue, structures, or supports to keep the amazing creations standing!
4. Now your child can pick a spot outdoors to create his balanced rock sculpture. The trick to creating a well-balanced rock sculpture is patience! Encourage your child to work slowly and find ways to balance his rocks into a vertical design by finding groves and level parts of the rocks to carefully build his creation.
5. After he’s finished with his sculpture, take a picture to keep the memory!
