It’s an exciting holiday indeed for your youngster—the first Christmas she can read! Enhance her verbal skills and imagination by letting her "play" with homemade magnets featuring Christmas images. Clear a space on your fridge or filing cabinet and encourage her to narrate her own unique holiday tale! This entertaining activity is also great for a play group or family fun!
What You Need:
- Old Christmas cards
- Small magnets
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Magnetic surface
What You Do:
- With your child, look through any old Christmas cards you have saved, and let her choose images that appeal to her.
- Encourage your child to read the simple Christmas messages on the cards.
- Help her cut out ten images. Remember, the process is more important than cutting perfectly!
- Assist your child in gluing all of the images to small magnets.
- Attach them to the refrigerator at her height, and let her imagination take flight!
As a supplement to this activity, encourage your child to write very simple 10 or 20 word stories about the images, and help her read them aloud to the family.
