Kids love the holidays because they're full of family, tradition, and — oh yes — gifts. Use this opportunity to teach your child the good manners of sending thank you cards! Your child will get some great writing practice in, too; a meaningful project like this can be a lot more motivational than a worksheet.

This quick and easy craft will keep the spirit of giving alive even after the gifts have been opened, and the recipient will absolutely adore it.

What You Need:

  • Blank cards or white cardstock
  • Red buttons
  • Red and green ribbon
  • Glue
  • Green marker/crayon
  • Pen

What You Do:

  1. Have your child pick three red buttons and glue them to the center of front of the card.
  2. Help your child cut strips of red and green ribbons for the border of the card.
  3. Help your child put glue around the edges of the front of the card and let him stick the ribbons down. They don't have to be perfectly straight — squiggles can add artistic flair!
  4. With a green marker, he can draw holly berry leaves around the buttons. If he has trouble drawing the leaves, you can help him draw the outline and let him color them in with green crayon.
  5. Have him choose a gift to start with and remind him who gave it to him if you need to. Now, he can start thanking!

If your child has trouble thinking of something to write in the card, tell him to try mentioning what the gift was and what he plans to do with it. These don't need to be long thank you notes — it's the thought that counts!
