This logic game will keep your child guessing! You will need to give and receive clues in order to figure out one another's numbers. Help your first grader become familiar with the terms "greater than" and "less than" and practice using them in conversation. Work on place value as you encourage your child to make well-planned choices in this activity. Try working with different sized numbers. Discuss what good winning strategies are as you play!

What You Need:

What You Do:

  1. Deal three cards to each player. Players need to arrange their three cards to form a three-digit number, and keep it secret! (You may record your number on scratch paper, if you'd like.)
  2. Players take turns guessing each other's number. Players respond to one another by saying, "That number is greater than my number," or "That number is less than my number." (It is a good idea for players to record their guesses for each round, and their results, as this information can help them decide on their next guesses.)
  3. Play until one player guesses a number correctly. They win!

Variations:

  • Play with a larger or smaller number of cards.
  • Instead of using "greater than" or "less than," have players use the following terms:
    • N = None of the digits are correct.
    • D = One of the digits is correct, but it is in the wrong place.
    • P = One of the digits is correct and in the right place.
