Teach your kids all about shapes with a bingo game they can play in the car or at home on a rainy day. Players have to find a variety of lines, 2 dimensional shapes and solid shapes to win the game and, in the process, learn to observe the world around them. Simply print the template and you will have four bingo cards.
What You Need:
- 1 set of bingo cards printed from the template
- 4 plastic page protectors
- 4 pieces of corrugated cardboard, roughly 8 ½ x 11
- 4 dry erase markers
- Large zip lock bag to hold the above
What You Do:
- Slip the bingo cards into the plastic page protectors. Behind each print out, add a piece of cardboard. The cardboard provides a handy writing surface. Your young players will use the dry erase markers to mark off the shapes they find and re-use the same sheets later.
- Before they play, discuss the shapes we see in the world around us. You might want to go into some detail. What is the difference between an acute angle and an obtuse angle? How does a scalene triangle differ from an equilateral triangle?
- Now set your players loose. Keep an eye on things so that you can coach as needed, helping a player who gets frustrated or discouraged. If one player wins too quickly, encourage them to see how many shapes they can find, filling the card if possible.
This game can be played multiple times in a variety of locations. Keep it in the car for long drives or unexpected delays.
