Moon in My Room
The moon is the perfect foray into astronomy. Its phases teach us about the forces of our universe, its features tell us about the origin of our planet, and it's just plain cool to look at. Moon in My Room by Uncle Milton brings the beauty and wonder of this celestial body right into your child's bedroom.
This remote controlled, glow-in-the-dark “mini moon” is contoured and textured to feature an authentically detailed lunar moonscape. A built in light-sensor illuminates a room when it gets dark and shows 12 phases of the moon. The phases can be controlled manually or set to rotate on an automatic function to change every five second, so that kids can follow the moon in the sky with the moon in their room. In order to save on batteries, the light shuts off after an hour.
An accompanying CD tells about the theories behind the moon's formation. Could it be rocky debris blown out from the earth during its formation, or was it attracted here from elsewhere in the universe? The CD also explains about the moon's different phases, eclipses and the Apollo missions. The narrative does an excellent job of invigorating a child's astronomical curiosity, but at a whooping 15 minutes it could have been longer and more in-depth.
Nothing beats taking your child outside with a set of binoculars to have a look at the real moon, but on cold or cloudy nights, this is without a doubt the next best thing.
This is an especially awesome accessory if your child is scared of the dark, or needs a night light. The full moon phase let's out enough light to see clearly, but you can adjust it to the half moon phase for a softer glow.
Before you know it, you'll be asking for a moon in your room!
