What the Expert Says:

Dear Catie:

the simple health measures work.  Wash hands, maintain good hygiene (shower), hydrate, eat well and get at this age 10 hours of sleep a night. Sunscreen and exercise are always important. Mental health issues relate to playing games, getting outside, and learning to swim.

Hi Catie,

It's definitely tough to keep kids active and healthy during the summer, or when they're away from you during the school day! While there's no surefire way to keep your child perfectly healthy, the best you can do is try to instill good habits in her. Do your best to show her healthy eating and hygiene habits. Don't overload her with information, but lead by example. Chances are if you don't force the issue, she'll be more likely to take to your advice.
That's my own personal experience, anyway! Hope this helps.
