Depending on were you live and your specific interest. Design field is very broad and there are many related fields.
Web, Gaming and Rich Media are all growing markets that will have demand for new talent in the foreseen future.
Print media is still popular and have lots of work, but generally speaking, I think you'll see less demand for it.
Ask yourself what is it in particular that you like in design and go find a school (or a studio) that will teach you the trade. it's always good if you can find an experience mentor.
