ClareGleeson asks:

I have a 25 year old gifted son. He has several issues: Low self esteem, craving of approval of others, lying for fear of not being liked or failure.

He was labeled as gifted in the second grade. He did great with gifted programs, although because he was young when he went to school (kids up to 2 years older in his class) his maturity was always lagging behind.  As an adult, he has low self esteem, will attempt little (new job, opening up to girlfriend) due to fear of failure or that someone will not like who he is.  He lies because he does not feel someone will like who he is.  He is not a happy person and really wants to try to  figure out what is going on.  What can we do (having done all the right things while he was growing up gifted) to help him now?  Are there books to help him understand what he is feeling and for us to read to help him.
