HialeahDad asks:
Q:
How can I get my 3-yr. old twin boys to cooperate and follow instructions?
I am having trouble getting my 3-yr. old twin boys to follow orders, especially in the mornings.  When I tell them it's time to brush their teeth or get dressed or put their shoes on or get in the car, they either ignore me or say no.  I have tried 1-2-3, time out and it works most of the time (meaning after the time out, they do what they were supposed to do), but they always cry when I put them in time out and it wears on me.  Also, it doesn't seem to register because I always have to get to 3 the next time.  Any suggestions?  I am very frustrated that everything takes 3x as long because we always have to go through this time out ritual before they do anything I need them to do.

What the Expert Says:

Thank you for contacting Education.com!

Mornings can be very stressful when trying to get little ones out the door. Rushing around adds to the stress for both parents and kids. It is always best to allow extra time to be able to get somewhere on time. This may take extra planning but it will be worth it. Making as many preparation the night before a busy moring.  We always talk about routines being important for kids at bedtime, but it can be helpful to have routines during morning hours as well.
