What the Expert Says:

Are you asking how to conduct a test to determine which of several materials absorbs the most water? To do this test fairly, you will need to use the same sized "puddles" of water, such as by measuring each amount with a spoon and depositing it on the same type of surface before conducting the test. Then you'd need to weigh the materials (preferably on a balance scale, which measures mass) so that you are using the same weight of the absorbent materials (or if you are using paper towels, the same square measure). After letting the materials absorb the water, re-weigh the materials and subtract from the original weight to determine which material absorbed the most.
