That's a pretty big question! There are a lot of things that go into reading and comprehension, so it depends on a lot of things, like what reading skills the child may be lacking. If you're asking as someone who just wants to support the child's reading progress at home, the biggest thing you can do is read with your child often, and have conversations about what you read.

Some children with poor reading comprehension do not "make pictures" in their heads as they are reading. You may want to ask your son what the characters look like in his head when you are reading to him.  See what he says.  www.lindamoodbell.com has an excellant program called verbalizing to visualizing which helps with reading comprehension.  You might want to look at the programs listed on the website.  However, its always a good idea to have a child evaluated to specifically determine what the issue could be.
