How can I help my 4 year old with answering questions according to what is asked?
My 4 year old has a very good memory. She memorizes stories and movies and would repeat them all day long in her play and conversation. She would answer your questions based on the story instead of what you're asking.

wen u ask her a question, before she answers, tell her to listen to the question carefully. then identify the main parts of the question and tell them to u. then remember the answer points related to the question, frame and answer only those relevant parts.
take time to teach her these steps to answering questions. in the begining, sit with her and give in ur 2 cents in these steps and slowly reduce ur input, allowing her to learn to answer the question.
and ofcourse use rewards and praise for each step she is able to follow.
