What the Expert Says:

Getting busy, distraction, and unwillingness to break the play might be some reasons for your son's accidents.  However, frequent accidents in a fully potty trained child may indicate a bladder infection.  That should be evaluated by your son's health care provider as soon as possible.

Best regards.

Hi there,

It sounds like your child may be having trouble with his confidence, or he may simply be forgetting to use the potty. Either way, this situation is very fixable! And you've come to a great place to get your questions and concerns addressed.

It's important that you maintain his self esteem and confidence, no matter how many accidents he has been having. He's likely embarrassed and ashamed, so your best bet is to try to make him feel as comfortable as possible. So rather than punishing him, reward him for successes!

I'm including an article below that focuses on bedwetting, but has some wonderful ideas and suggestions for maintaining kids' self-esteem when they are dealing with accidents. The second link is to a question asked by a parent who was having a similar issue with a 3.5 year old. The answer to that parent's question also includes a valuable tip.

Hope this helps!
