How do I get my 5 year old to stop fighting with his younger siblings?

Our high-energy 5 year old son is constantly provoking and starting fights with his younger twin 3 year old siblings. Possibly he feels like the odd man out given the special bond that the twins have. We've tried time-outs, but with only minimal success (stops the individual fight but not the longer-term problem). How can we encourage him to get along better with the siblings?

There are many good resources to help parents foster positive play with their children. Siblings Without Rivalry is an excellent book and also an online resource.

Dr. Michele Borba also has written 101 Parenting Solutions- which you may find very helpful. Also, try to "catch" positive moments and maximize them by praising your children for being cooperative, helpful to each other and showing mutual respect."
