The first thing you should do is find pictures of the rocks you wish to construct. There are many great, full color books at any local library. These can be taken home and used as a reference over a longer time. The Smithsonian also has an extensive collection of rocks on display, but if you can't visit DC, below is a link that shows numerous great rocks.
