Q:
my 9 year old daughter has anger issues and also tries to hurt herself
my 9 year old has a very short temper. she doesn't like to be told when she has done something wrong and when she is she. lashes out and she will close herself in her room and scratch her body parts with her nails. like her face and her arms. she also suffers from anxiety. she does well in school but hates to do the work and that's what alot of our fights are about.also this year she has been accused of being bossy to her friends and it has caused her to loose some friends.Do you think I need to take her to see a therapist?

What the Expert Says:

It sounds like your child may benefit from learning some good coping skills. Coping with not getting the responses that she would like or even hearing constructive criticism.
Since she is dealing with self injury, we feel it would be best for her to talk with a therapist. They can teach her how to put her feelings into words and even encourage her to journal when she is feeling frustrated. These would be healthy coping skills that many people use when they feel upset, frustrated or angry.
Continue to encourage her to open up and talk with you when she feels frustrated. Communication is key.
We are here 24/7 for her to talk with us or you could call when you are feeling frustrated as well. 1-800-448-3000.  We have counselors available for all family related issues.
