What the Expert Says:

It’s a little difficult to answer your question without knowing more information about the situation and what’s occurred up to this point.  The best advice I can give you is to speak with the teacher(s) first in a positive manner about your concerns.  By positive I mean to avoid approaching anyone while angry, upset or confrontational.  Try to set up a time and approach your meeting in a calm and collected manner, perhaps even writing items of concern down ahead of time so that you can stay focused.  You may even want to have someone with you as support.  Someone who is there to “hold your hand” so to speak and give you strength to say what you need to say.  If you find that your concerns are not properly addressed after this meeting, then perhaps you may need to get administration involved.  As well, document your encounter as well as any previous instances which you felt were abusive.  Hope this is of some help.

Hi, It would help members of the JustAsk community to answer your question if you added more context to it. For instance, can you give some examples of the behavior you think is abusive? Are you a parent or a student? Have you tried talking with the teachers and/or principal about the issues or situations that have arisen? Have you taken any other actions to address the problem?

Gather evidence and present it to the principal. Have your son/daughter carry a small recording device and press record. Come home and listen to it very carefully. You may even want to cam cord if the device is small enough. This teacher must be stopped! Please do not ignore the problem.
