The typical starting age for kindergarten at public schools in the United States is five, but some students are six in kindergarten due to cut-off dates for kindergarten enrollment. At many public schools, if the child turns five after the enrollment cut-off date, the parent has to wait until the following year, in which case the child turns six during kindergarten. Contact your local school and/or school district to learn their policies with regard to enrollment, particularly for students who have been previously home schooled.
