Appropriate dating age has to do with family, culture, experience of parents and siblings, religious tenets, and how equipped a person is to be able to take care of themselves when alone with someone else.
It is a complex social situation. Most young people first date in groups with friends, and later in adolescence form single partnerships. Dating should be comfortable and safe--never aggressive. Know your dates well and be sure parents know them too.
