What the Expert Says:

Hi Emmau,

You don't mention your brother's age, but it is not uncommon for some children to have an imaginary friend when they are young. It can be a phase and he will grow out of it. But, if your brother is older and is using this as an excuse to not accept responsibility for his actions, then you should talk to your parents about it.

If you notice that your brother is acting out on the bad things the voices are telling him to do, and if your brother appears to become more and more out of reality, please make sure your parents and the other adults in charge are aware of the situation.

You can always call or e-mail our Hotline with any questions or concerns. We are here 24 hours, 7 days a week to help. Take care and let us know if we can help!

Sincerely,

Cynthia, Counselor

I would talk to your parents about it.  If he's in his teens it could be a mental disorder.
