The Cephalocaudal principle is the concept that development (i.e. voluntary movement/motor control) progresses from head to toe, or top-down, as it were. Motor control within the first 6 months of a child's life develops in the head and the neck initially, then with hand movements and hand-eye coordination, and so on.
