Q:
Is my child ready for early entry exam?
My son is a very active 3 and half yr old. He can read well, write well and can do simple additions up to 10. The daycare has kept him in the lowest class with the 2-3yrs old saying he lacks social skills and is very emotional even though he has the skills of their highest class (6yrs old). I did insist he be moved up to the 4-5 yrs old with all his friends from last year. In September all his friends were moved to the new class and he was left behind. He was not as enthusiastic to go to his daycare anymore. I personally feel he is bored with the curriculum at the lower level class. How do they expect him to act mature when they place him with younger kids? Finally they moved him to the higher class with some condition like if he is still very active he will be going back etc. As a parent I know he acts that way only when he is bored and unchallenged. He is a bright boy and can sit for hours if engaged in something interesting eg. plays educational games and copies words from a story book. Is he ready for kindergarten and what are his chances for being allowed to sit an early entrance exam?
Thanks all
