The ideal school day would be from 9-5 with a one hour lunch and one house play time.  This would enable mothers and fathers to resume their work while having their children in the school and with their peers.  The core subjects would be taught in addition to art, music and a mandatory thirty minute meditation group to help deal with the stresses of today.

hello ma'am
i am from india.i am studying in 12th class.here, our school lasts for 6 hours 30 mins which i feel is quite long b'cos i dont find time for studying at home.so i feel it should be reduced to 3-4 hrs in which only the imp subjects should be taught.but for the primary and secondary 6 hrs of schooling is important.
here we select our stream only in 11th.but it wud be gud if we are allowed to do so in 9th itself.so we need not study those subjects which we do not find interesting.

#1 - Integrate a spiritual umbrella.  This may exclude, but the spiritual element provides reality, motivation, and eternal purpose.  Atheism and humanism are not the only umbrellas for education.
#2 - Make all subjects "core" and make all students sample each.  Offer advanced courses for interested students.
#3 - Make all subjects hands-on/participatory.  Minimize lecture.  Maximize interaction.  More work for the teacher but infinitely better for the students.
#4 - Practice student government at all grade levels.  Implement their ideas.  Do not patronize.
#5 - Focus on application.  Don't get lost in mundane details.  Information technology (e.g., cloud computing) provides an environment where information is readily available.  Teach wisdom instead of knowledge.
