What the Expert Says:

it sounds like you believe that 'getting a crush" is something like catching a fish or a cold. That's not the way it works, catie. The magical thing about crushes is that they sorta kinda just... happen! One day you may be sitting in class next to the same person you've sat next to all year and then, something happens... maybe you two share a laugh or maybe you drop your pen and he picks it up and nicely hands it back to you. Or maybe someone tells you that he likes you. Whatever it is, all of sudden you may see him in a new way. And you may feel nervous/excited to be sitting next to him. You may even find yourself unable to think about anything else but this person. That's a crush. And so you see, there's really nothing you can do to "get" a crush... it just happens. Same goes for someone having a crush on you. It just happens.

if you're in the 5th grade (as I'm guessing you are) and some of your friends have crushes and you've never had one, I can understand that you might be wondering about when this will happen to you.

Trust me when i say, it probably will happen someday. I can't tell when because, like I said, it's kinda like magic. In the meantime, try not to worry about all the boy/girl stuff. Just be open to friendships and you'll be fine.
