Q:

How can I help my daughter and her friend who have a love/hate relationship get along?

My 8 year old daughter is best friends with our neighbor's 9 year old daughter. Problems is, a love/hate relationship. They are both very competitive and argue all the time. They always want to play together, bu most of the time it ends in fights.
How can we teach them both to get along? Thank you.

Hi Catalina,

Competitive friendships are not uncommon, but I think it is great that you want to be able to help them resolve arguements and appreciate each other more. Check out our information center on friendships, there are a ton of helpful articles, like "Teach your Child to make Peace": http://www.education.com/reference/topic/TeenYears_MiddleYears_Friendship/

Maybe other parents have gone through similar situations and have ideas?
