Hi jayasinghe,

I'd say a Dictionary provides a definition, while an Encyclopedia article on a word can provide both a definition, and other information about the subject.

Every word (minus slang words and some others) should be in a Dictionary, whereas an Encyclopedia only has articles on most major topics.

I hope the links help.
