How to distinguish Chinese and mandarin and should I learn Chinese or learn mandarin is better in China?

I used to think a Nation match only one mother language, but I found the Chinese language has
such two kinds of different language while I tend to learn Chinese language, so I wonder the anwser.

And if u r a beginner in Chinese learning , u had better find a professional mandarin school or tutor.
