Hi….

Personally for me, I find that multiplying with more than one digit is easier when the numbers are written vertical rather than horizontal.  For example, it’s easier to solve

   25
X 38 ‘
______

.than 25 x 38

Also another trick that I use is when there’s a number that ends in zero, put that number at the bottom.  For example,

   27
X 30
_______
 810

But if you put the 30 on the then you must do
    30
  X 27
       ________
   210
          60
        __________
           810

Hope this helps!

Vicki

I'm with you - the way math is taught is constantly changing!

If the problem is just 12 x 2, you can multiply the two by both the ones and tens digits so it's 2 x 2 and 10 x 2. Add those answers together (4 + 20 = 24).

Once you get to multiplying two two digit numbers by each other, it gets much more complicated.

Below, there's a link to a page that does a good job explaining multiplying 2 two digit numbers.

I hope this helps you!
