What the Expert Says:

Educators do not expect an 18 month old to have more than a few minutes of patience for any activity, including reading. This is a stage of their development for exploring. In a few months or so, your child should be able to sit for a ten page book with large type.  Picture books also are very engaging at this age.  Consider those with bright photos as children relate best to photographs of other children and common things- such as dogs and cars.

Bravo to you for encouraging reading!
