We're raising our grandchildren. We took Micheal from his mother due to child abuse & neg. Michael was given cold meds to keep him sleeping, not fed, changed, played with etc so Michael is a slow learner. The kids in his classes bully and tease him all day everyday. Michael hates school avoids recess games etc because he isn't liked or wanted. When he tells he is usually the one that gets into trouble. The other day they were in the hallway a kid was sticking his finger in Michael's ear Michael told then was in trouble for talking in the hallway. The sticks and stones thing doesn't work, telling doesn't work I feel helpless. One child up there is a known bully shouldn't they kick these kids out of the school system and make their parents take them to a "special" school were they can learn how to act and treat others?

Is your grandson receiving any services from the school such as counseling or resource room because of his ADHD? Has he been evaluated by the school's Special Education team? Have you spoken to Michael's teacher about the bullying? In most schools there is no tolerance for bullying. As Michael's guardians you have the right to advocate for him. Children can not be kicked out of a public school as all children are entitled to an education. You have the right to speak up for your child and hopefully the school has consequences set up for situations such as bullying.

Michael sounds like a child in great need of a lot of love and support. I would encourage you as grandparents to homeschool him for a year or two and slowly work on his social skills through homeschool organizations. He will never thrive in a system that expects too much from him.

i would probably go one step further and have him evaluated privately for any learning disabilities as this may help you make educational choices in the future.
