Q:

Does anyone know where I can find peer reviewed research articles about how nurturing can affect cognitive development?

I am looking for sources to cite in order to support the statement that a child who has been abused, neglected or traumatized may have permanent changes to his/her neurology that may result in learning disorders or IQ (MR).

What the Expert Says:

Dear Reading Service Mom,

If you are currently a student, you most likely have access to a number of wonderful academic journal databases through your university program. PsychINFO and PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ are two of the most popular databases for the type of information you are seeking. You can start a search on your university webpage. If you find that access to these databases is limited, you can also try Google Scholar http://scholar.google.com/. The information here is not as extensive as the above databases, but it is helpful nonetheless.

Good luck with your research! This is an important topic.
