Q:

Does flame resistant clothing aggravate eczema?

Is it possible that among other health concerns that surrounds the use of flame resistant chemicals, that these chemicals would also aggravate eczema leading to more breakouts?

What the Expert Says:

It is a great question.  Flame retardant clothing was one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century for child safety. Eczema can be aggravated by wool and natural fibers as well. Cotton or blends with loose fitting clothing work the best. The chemicals themselves bother eczema on a case by case basis. Wash them first before waring and avoid fragrance and softeners in the wash.

One of the other forms of skin illness include Seborrheic eczema as well as contact dermatitis (do you know, like poison ivy or contact with detergents and chemicals).  You should avoid wool, polyester, wrinkle-resistant, flame-retardant or scratchy fabrics in clothes and bedding. Yes of course, but not only flame resistant clothing but also chemical additive use in processing the fabric also cause dermatitis. Clothing can be a cause of occupational dermatitis. The physical or occlusive effect of clothing can result in dermatitis. Contaminated clothing from workplace chemicals, friction from clothing rubbing the skin, or heat retention from perspiration soaked clothing in hot working environments can cause distinctive dermatological conditions. If you are feeling constant itching in your hand or any other part of your body than you should take it seriously and start using natural eczema treatment. It is really necessary to control your eczema otherwise it will spread in all your body parts. Get more details on:-
