How about generating some peanut power?
http://www.education.com/reference/article/Ref_Peanut_Power/

For the required graph, the student could create a graph or chart with the differences in the water temperature for each of the various nuts vs. the peanut, or multiple peanuts vs. a single peanut.

If that's not interesting to your sixth-grade student, here are many other ideas: http://www.education.com/topic/great-science-fair-project-ideas/

Education.com also offers information about the scientific method, and what makes a good science project.

A good science experiment must have a variable, comparing two things and must be something you want to find out. :D so yeah

How about an experiment like "Test if Water is Salty Using Electricity." This you can do a good graph too. You get the buzzer to go off, making your graph from little or no salt to a very large amount of salt. Good luck.
