Q:

Should you get the H1N1 vaccine if over the age of 50?

I'm 54 and a nanny for a 3month old. Should I get the flu shot, and is it safe for my age? I have chron's disease and take cimzia once a month. Thanks

What the Expert Says:

Dear Velvet:

Generally yes because you are a nanny for some one under six months old.  The recommendation is all family members and caretakers should be immunized with H1N1.  It is safe for your age and we know that since health care workers of any age are immunized without event.  Most important is to ask your GI specialist or your internist what she recommends for you in light of your monthly medication.

you should ask your doctor if you should get the shot. If you had the shot before then it would probably be safe!
