Hi, one of the best options I like for my children are going to the state museums, children's museums, or the zoo. Usually, those places will also put on special attractions that have a certain theme. This can be a great purpose to go and teach the children about topics. Hope this helps!
1. visit local historic sites. Take pictures and notes and prepare a travelogue to use in class room or at home. Make a Power Point Presentation
2. Learn to scrapbook - multiple applications
Try the local wildlife centers for summer programs for kids. Look for a local recreation program or library adventure center. Also, if you live near the shore/ocean, many of the state and national parks have "seine the bay programs" or ocean identification programs for children. River keepers do the same. Check with your local girl scouts etc for what they are up to during the summer and enjoy the time off.
