Find out what the school's rule is regarding students who can attend school dances, including those with an IEP. If they are firm on this rule request to have an Addendum to the IEP so the team can meet so to see if this social activity can be given to the student despite them not having a 2.0 GPA to attend the dance. If all of the team members agree then it could possibly be in place for the student. Although, the student will have to do their part to turn in assignments, have proper behavior, etc. so this could possibly be an option. If the child does not turn in assignments and/or has behavior issues then the request will more than likely be denied.
