Hi Patricia,
What a great question! I personally believe that the answer to your question depends somewhat upon your own values and beliefs about what is entailed in being a "good" person. That said, the Golden Rule, "treat others as you would like to be treated", is always a good start. Other foundations of strong character include honesty, integrity, and loyalty. Now, once you have decided what to teach your children, how do you go about it? One simple strategy is to demonstrate strong character in your own actions and behavior - lead by example!
Hi Patricia,
Here's an article about nurturing students to learn "right from wrong" from the toddler years on from a developmental perspective. http://www.education.com/reference/article/Ref_Learning_Right_Wrong_1/
Of course, there are many other character traits that would be great to focus on in a preschool environment, but I think exposing children to empathy and the difference between "right" from "wrong" are very important in the preschool years!
