Shannon2013 asks:

How do I increase my 4 1/2 yr. old, (boy) attention span!???

I have a very active 4 1/2 yr old boy.. wondering how to keep his attention span longer and have him sit still while eating during meal time.. also have a 3 yr. old who can sit still longer and keep interested in activities longer, so I know he can and should be able to at this age! Any suggestions???

What the Expert Says:

All children are their own personalities. it has to do with temperament, personality, and how they see themselves getting attention at the table. Some need more attention than others. At four you can expect a short sit down period and continue to enforce it, but be realistic and stick to a one course meal and sit with them. Give the four year old a job such as placing the napkin on the table so he might invest in the process or clean up.

Best wishes.

Some wiggly children have poor sitting balance with adult chairs. If this could be the case, try putting a small stool or a stack of books under his feet to help him feel more balanced. If he has good balance try a Sit and Move cushion to help hin wiggle without getting up. But 4 1/2 year old boys are wiggly
