Hi computergator,

A lot of software created in the last few years requires the CD in the drive to use. The software needs certain files on the CD which are not loaded on the hard drive. Compare this software CD to a game CD on a system like the PS3 or Xbox or Wii - almost all games that come on a CD require the CD in the drive to play. Hope this helps!
