How to Land a Top-Paying Federal Job: Your Complete Guide to Opportunities, Internships, Resumes and Cover Letters, Networking, Interviews, Salaries, Promotions, and More!
I've been out of school for almost two years and was really getting discouraged about not being able to find a job. I've heard so many great things about federal employment from the excellent benefits and flexible work schedules so I decided to start looking for federal jobs and gave this book a try. This book is loaded with excellent tips, tricks and examples directly from a federal insider. This book walks you through the entire hiring process from locating available positions to tailoring your resume and cover letters to negotiating salaries. Once I implemented the advice in this guide, I immediately started getting interviews with both federal and non-federal employers. I am now in a great and well paid position, much in part thanks to this book
If you want a job in the federal government, buy this book -- either the hard-copy edition or in the equally excellent Kindle edition. Really. Don't even bother with getting a bunch of guidebooks and trying to sort through it all. For once, one book is all you will need to get the skinny on how to get that dream job, or a foot in the door on the path to your dream job. Whiteman knows all the ins and outs of what to do and what not to do, and she covers every base. Easily readable, actually really enjoyable prose, (not to be expected in a how to find a job book) and loads of excellent advice and guidance is what you will find here. She certainly has helped me!

And by the way, all of the material included in the CD of the hard-copy edition is also included in the Kindle edition of this book by hot links and a dedicated website. So the Kindle edition is just as excellent, complete and comprehensive as the hard-copy version.

Changing Contours of Work: Jobs and Opportunities in the New Economy (Sociology for a New Century Series)
In the highly-anticipated second edition of Changing Contours of Work: Jobs and Opportunities in the New Economy, authors Sweet and Meiskins once again provide a rich analysis of the American workplace in the larger context of an integrated global economy. Through engaging vignettes and rich data, this text frames the development of jobs and employment opportunities in an international comparative perspective, revealing the historical transformations of work and identifying the profound effects that these changes have had on lives, jobs, and life chances. This text brings into focus the many complexities of class, race, and gender inequalities in the modern-day workplace, as well as details the consequences of job insecurity and work schedules mismatched to family needs. Throughout, strategic recommendations are offered that could help make the new economy work for us all.
