What the Expert Says:

Hello and thank you for writing to JustAsk!

Thank you for asking this important and considerate question.  I would focus on items that are soft and/or can play some music.  In addition there are toys that can help keep skills or possibly develop a few.

Here are some great resources:

You may wish to check out toys that utilize sensory integration or small motor development here: http://funandfunction.com/

You may wish to check out Stress Free Kids for music that is soothing.

You may wish to consider Kimochis which may help to identify feelings.

Also, I am not sure if you are using sign language- but Scholastic has a wonderful series of literature classics with music, voice and sign language.  You can find them here:  http://www.aslinside.com
