What the Expert Says:

Regular attendance is an important value to teach children beginning at a young age. Later this translates to regular attendance at work as an adult. However, if your child has chronic illness, such as asthma, and misses school frequently due to illness, you may request a 504 eligibility meeting to address your child's needs.

Make the school officials aware of medical problems and document visits to the physician.

Attendance is very important from the school's point of view because schools are funded based on Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Absences reduce the school's overall rating and funding.
