What the Expert Says:

Here are two tips that might help:

- See if there are any patterns.  If your son tends to have problems at certains times or in certain situations, prepare for those.  Pre-teach by explaining what it is he should do and then ask him to explain it back to you.  

- Use consequences, both negative and positive.  If he can't keep his hands to himself, a negative consequence might be a time-out during recess.  Don't forget about positive consequences, though!  If you see him refrain from misbehaving when he usually would, praise him.
